What We Do
The Chicago Peace Corps (CPC) is an organization committed to dismantling the school-to-prison by fostering restorative justice efforts in Chicago schools and communities. CPC is being incubated and housed at The University of Chicago Institute of Politics and has been serving the Chicago community since September 2015. Many of our volunteers are trained in Peace Circle keeping and other restorative justice and conflict resolution strategies.
We currently have volunteers placed in Chavez Upper Grade Center in the Back of the Yards community and Chalmers Elementary School in the North Lawndale Community.
With the support of the SSPI and our founding background in the Shriver Method, the CPC would like to take up Sarge's call to action in Chicago. Too often we are focused on our own lives and problems and miss out on important connections waiting outside the reflection of what we already know about our communities and ourselves. Peace circles and outreach across Chicago allows our members and community partners to break their mirrors and discover the life-changing connections and relationships with people and places that don't necessarily reflect what we already know about ourselves.
